SHILLONG, June 5: The NEIGRIHMS Faculty Association (NFA) has condemned the assault on healthcare workers at Hojai of Assam and Chikkamagaluru of Karnataka.
In a statement, the NFA asked the concerned authorities to take cognizance of such cases of repeated assaults on health workers, and ensure their safety and security. “During an unprecedented pandemic, while doctors and other healthcare workers are rendering exemplary service beyond their call of duty, such attacks serve to demoralise us all,” the NFA said.
It may be mentioned that a doctor was recently assaulted by an enraged mob after a COVID-19 patient succumbed at a COVID care centre in Assam’s Hojai.
In a similar incident, a paediatrician in Karnataka’s Chikkamagaluru was attacked by the family members of a child, who passed away due to dengue. The assault had left the paediatrician grievously injured.
