Fatalities come down, recoveries continue to impress

Shillong, June 5: Nine more people succumbed to COVID-19 infection in the past 24 hours in Meghalaya, taking the death toll to 652 while 801 recoveries brought the active tally below the 6,000-mark to 5,797.
Out of nine deaths, seven were reported in East Khasi Hills while one death each was reported from Ri Bhoi and West Jaintia Hills. The case fatality rate in the state stands at 1.71%.
The number of recoveries has now shot up to 31,781.
With 497 new cases recorded on Saturday, the confirmed tally of COVID-19 cases in the state has gone up to 38,230.
Among the new cases, 204 were reported in East Khasi Hills, 102 in West Garo Hills, 49 in Ri Bhoi, 36 in South West Garo Hills, 34 in West Jaintia Hills, 24 in South West Khasi Hills, 17 in East Garo Hills, 13 in East Jaintia Hills, eight in West Khasi Hills and five each in North Garo Hills and South Garo Hills.
The recoveries included 309 from East Khasi Hills, 129 from West Garo Hills, 118 from Ri Bhoi, 66 from West Jaintia Hills, 33 each from East Jaintia Hills and South West Khasi Hills, 30 from North Garo Hills, 26 each from East Garo Hills and West Khasi Hills, 24 from South West Garo Hills and seven from South Garo Hills.
The state has so far conducted 5,95,501 tests of which 5,57,271 have come out negative.
Out of the 5,797 active cases, 1022 are in institutional quarantine while 4775 are under home isolation.
A total of 30,001 healthcare workers, 91,213 frontline workers and 2,80,714 eligible citizens have been administered the first dose of vaccine of whom 19,585 healthcare workers, 26,558 frontline workers and 28,318 citizens have been given the second dose.
The bed occupancy in the state has come down to 51.3%. of the 1,152 beds available in the state, 591 were occupied on Saturday.
