Publisher of Mawphor passes away

SHILLONG, June 10: The journalist fraternity in Shillong along with citizens in general on Thursday came to terms with the tragic news of the publisher of the first Khasi local daily, Mawphor, Readington M Marweiñ, passing away.
Marweiñ died after a prolonged illness. He was 72.
Born on May 22, 1949, in Mawlangwir, Mawkyrwat, Marweiñ is survived by his wife and daughters.
Prior to starting his journey as a publisher and an offset press owner, he worked as a peon in Mawkyrwat Block and later as Gram Sevak in Mylliem and Mawryngkneng blocks. Being encouraged by a friend, Marweiñ started Mawphor in the year 1989.
He also ventured into opening an English local daily in 2013 which was called Highland Post. Marweiñ also started a Garo weekly called Kosi Songbad just recently in 2021.
Conveying condolences, former Nongkrem MLA Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit and the Federation of Khasi Jaintia Garo People have mourned his demise.
