NONGPOH, June 10: As Meghalaya battles the raging onslaught of the second wave of the pandemic, the Ri Bhoi District Congress Committee (RBDCC) on Thursday apprised the state government about the need to implement some measures to effectively tide over this crisis while also identifying some deficiencies within the district.
In a letter to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner RM Kurbah, the Congress committee flagged the need for a functioning Intensive Care Unit and Anaesthetist at Nongpoh Civil Hospital and ‘Cluster Level Isolation Centre’, besides ambulances fitted with ventilators and special packages to help community isolation centres. Moreover, the RBDCC also stressed on the need to pace up the vaccination drive.
It also suggested that special honorarium be provided to ASHA workers on a monthly basis during the present situation.
The RBDCC has also asked the government to allow MGNREGS work in rural works to continue so as to enable villagers to earn their livelihood, while also seeking relief such as free ration to the needy in the state affected by lockdowns.
