MAWKYRWAT/NONGSTOIN, June 11: In a move to eliminate suppositions about COVID-19 and promote awareness on preventing its spread, a multi-facilitation centre at the Farmers Market in Mawkyrwat was on Friday inaugurated by the South West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, C Kharkongor. The multi-facilitation centre has been set up by the office of the Block Development Officer of Mawkyrwat at the new market place on land allowed for use by the Presbyterian Church and the Church of God.
In her address as the chief guest, the DC lauded Mawkyrwat BDO for taking up the initiative of setting up the centre and deputing some staff. The DC called upon the vendors and shopkeepers besides the public visiting the market to go to the facilitation centre if they need any information regarding COVID, especially vaccination & testing.  She also encouraged people to get vaccinated and also come forward for testing when the Health department conducts random tests in the village.
Speaking on the occasion, District Surveillance Officer of South West Khasi Hills, Dr W Narry, meanwhile, expressed hope that the multi-facilitation centre will help in disseminating awareness among people of the district on COVID-19.
Maintaining that South West Khasi Hills has ranked lowest in the vaccination campaign in state, Dr Narry said the people need more awareness about vaccines as many still believe in hearsay.
