Curfew till June 21 in Shillong agglomeration

SHILLONG/TURA, June 12: The East Khasi Hills district administration, in an order on Saturday, imposed curfew in Shillong Urban Agglomeration with effect from 5 am of June 14 to 5 am of June 21.
In the order, the district magistrate notified several measures to during the curfew period. “Inter and intra-movement of person to and from Shillong Urban Agglomeration is not permitted. Vehicles plying without passes will be liable for strict penalties. Any one in defiance of orders is liable for arrest,” the order said.
In-situ construction activities are permitted, with due permission from the DC’s office while political, public, social and religious gatherings including conferences, meetings and trainings, weddings and sporting activities are not permitted.
It added that only notified central and state government offices are permitted to open with limited staff. All banks and post offices are permitted to open with limited staff.
Funeral gatherings are to be restricted to 10 persons only, with prior permission from the deputy commissioner’s office.
On the other hand, in rural areas outside Shillong Urban Agglomeration during the period from June 14 to 21, night curfew will be promulgated from 7 PM to 5 AM.
Agricultural activities and MGNREGA activities are permitted. Opening of essential shops and non-essential shops will be regulated by the Sub Divisional Officers (C), Block Development Officers and CCMTs concerned
Construction activities are permitted after obtaining due permission. However, inter-village movement of labourers is to be restricted.
Public transport (local taxis only) may be permitted within the Sub-Divisions by the Sub Divisional Officer (C) in Pynursla and Sohra for movement at 30 per cent strength and only on days of opening of shops and/or for essential purposes only, the order said.
International trade will be regulated by the SDO (C) concerned in consultation with the undersigned.
WGH extends lockdown
West Garo Hills District Magistrate, Ram Singh, had passed an order on 12 June thereby enforcing the containment measures in the district from 5 a.m of 14 June till 5 a.m of 21 June with the same restricted and permitted activities as in the earlier order passed on 30 May.
According to the order, the opening of essential commodities shops in Tura Main Bazar areas will continue to follow the earlier order while in other parts of the district, these shops will open from Monday to Friday from 8 a.m till 1 p.m while the non-essential shops are allowed to open on Tuesday and Thursday from 8 a.m to 1 p.m.
The movement of vehicles will continue to follow the odd-even rule and all non-essential movement is discouraged and intra-district public transport are not allowed. Those violating the movement protocols or furnishing false self-declaration will be liable for penal action as per law, the order said.
The order also said that besides weekend lock-down on Saturday and Sunday, the corona curfew from 2 p.m to 5 a.m will continue in the district .
