SHILLONG, June 15: The ‘repeated’ power cuts in Malki and adjoining area have got the goat of senior UDP leader, Bindo M Lanong, who has lashed out at the Power department on Tuesday after some parts of the city witnessed power outage for more than an hour and demanded an immediate inquiry into the matter.
“The Power department is playing with the people of the state as if there is no authority or government to keep a check of this frequent power cut at five minutes interval that is troubling the residents,” the UDP leader said.
The UDP leader said that residents are being harassed continuously with alleged frequent power cuts and demanded the government to initiate an immediate inquiry into it.  “We in Malki and adjoining area are suffering as if some people with criminal intent are playing a funny game,” he said.
Dubbing the matter as “very serious”, Lanong said that the citizens are regular tax payers but the power department is making a joke out of them on a daily basis as current comes and goes arbitrarily.
“Today (Tuesday) was the worst, there was no power for more than one and a half hour and it has turned really problematic,” he said, while adding that similar is the fate of Ri Bhoi.
