SHILLONG, June 15: An already perturbed lot of farmers have reportedly been questioned and stopped before they enter Shillong to make a living. In the wake of this, Congress MLA Mohendro Rapsang has asked the state government to provide farmers hassle-free access to markets here during the lockdown.
Speaking to media persons here on Tuesday, Rapsang took note of the fact that many a time, farmers are not allowed to proceed ahead to Shillong with their produce as they don’t possess a pass. “The vegetables they carry is their pass and you cannot expect a farmer in a rural place to apply online for the car pass,” Rapsang said.
The Congress MLA said that the administration should not impose such restrictions on the farmers.
Providing his counsel, the MLA suggested that the government can set up ‘mandis’ at different locations such as Mawryngkneng and Upper Shillong to provide them proper market to sell their produce.
