Minister & his team lend helping hand

SHILLONG/ MAWKYRWAT, June 18: Amongst many Good Samaritans stepping forward to provide succour to those severely hit by the pandemic COVID-19 and even lost their livelihood is a team led by Cabinet Minister Kyrmen Shylla which is doing its bit to help the needy.
Appointed by the minister, these COVID-19 warriors comprising young men and women run errands delivering ration, medicines and other supplies in Khliehriat, East Jaintia Hills, which is the minister’s constituency.
Speaking about the initiative, Khliehriat MLA Kyrmen Shylla said that his team recently took an old lady to a hospital in Jowai as she was suffering since months.
Informing that they will take care of her expenditure, Shylla said that the team is trying to reach out to as many as possible, whether it is people under quarantine or those in need of assistance.
In addition, necessary assistance is also being provided to ASHA and Anganwadi workers
The minister also said that many among the general public are also contributing to their cause.
MLA distributes rice in SWKH border villages
After receiving reports about the people facing problems due to COVID-19, especially in border villages under South West Khasi Hills, local MLA Pius Marwein provided rice to residents in as many as 36 villages along the Indo-Bangladesh border.
A total of 1,683 families received ration in 17 villages of Mawpyllun-Borsora area and 19 villages of Bagli-Maheshkola area. The rice was distributed according to the list prepared by the village leaders, who were instructed to distribute the ration at 10 kg per families.
Marwein also urged upon the people in all villages under Ranikor constituency to help one another strictly follow the protocols and advisories issued by the Health department.
NPYF lauds govt initiatives
The youth wing of the National People’s Party (NPP) has heaped praise on Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma for initiatives taken to fight the pandemic in the state.
Taking inspiration from such leadership, the Nation People’s Youth Front (NPYF) has decided to organise a series of online career counseling and mental health programmes in English, Khasi, Garo and Jaintia engaging professional counselors.
