SHILLONG, June 22: The BSF Meghalaya frontier, which was overwhelmed by COVID-19 pandemic last year, has become a role model in 2021 by attaining the feat of 100 per cent inoculation against COVID-19.
A statement from the BSF said that since movement of its troops for various courses, election and other duties is unavoidable, vaccination against COVID-19 was imperative.
Under such circumstances, COVID-19 vaccination has proved a game-changer in bringing down the positivity rate among the BSF troops to the lowest, the statement said.
It was also informed that the ones currently affected by COVID-19 are either asymptomatic or have mild symptoms while the recovery among the ones vaccinated is faster in comparison to non-vaccinated persons.
Meanwhile, BSF Meghalaya IG, Hardeep Singh, has expressed gratitude to the Meghalaya civil administration for providing vaccines as well as the medical fraternity of the BSF for their contribution in the fight against COVID-19.
He added that after 100 per cent vaccination of BSF troops, inoculation of women and beneficiaries over 18 years is under way and is likely to be completed soon.
Maintaining that vaccination is the most potent weapon in the fight against COVID-19, Singh has urged one and all to come forward for vaccination.
‘Drastic decline in cases’
West Shillong MLA Mohendro Rapsang has said that there has been a drastic decline in the number of positive cases in his constituency, even as he informed that presently there are only 10 active cases.  “This achievement is due to the hard work of the frontline workers,” he said, while also attributing it to the efforts of public.
Meanwhile, Secretary of Durbar Shnong Shillong West, Robert Dkhar, said that they are relentlessly striving to fight the pandemic.
He, however, said that they have not received any financial aid from the state government, especially to run the community corona care centre. “Without financial assistance, it is very tough for the Dorbar to tackle the problem. We have been managing from the fund of the locality only,” said Dkhar, while adding that the government can at least provide free provision kit to those undergoing home isolation.
On the declining trend of COVID cases, he said, “We request the people to cooperate. If we can continue to do that, we can even prevent the coming of third wave”.
