MAWKYRWAT, June 23: PHE Minister Renikton L Tongkhar, who is also the local legislator, interacted with shopkeepers at the Mawkyrwat market, from where recently reports were received that some of the traders were not allowed to restart their businesses as they had not been vaccinated against COVID-19.
The Mawkyrwat MLA has assured the shopkeepers to take up the matter with South West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner C Kharkongor and find a solution to their problems.
Stating that these are problems also faced by shopkeepers in other districts, Tongkhar empathised with them while informing them that he will make some recommendations to the DC for regulating the Mawkyrwat market so as to enable all shopkeepers to restart their businesses, at least twice a week for each shop.
On COVID-19 vaccine, the minister said that government does not force anybody to get vaccinated. However, those who refuse to be inoculated will have to get themselves tested every 10 days, he added, while encouraging the people, especially shopkeepers to get vaccinated so as to help win the battle against the pandemic.
