TURA, June 27: The construction of a suspension bridge under the MGNREGS across the Simsang river has enabled a vaccination team to reach a remote village in East Garo Hills and administer the Covid-19 vaccine to villagers.
The team from Dobu PHC under Samanda Block along with block officials and accompanied by Williamnagar MLA Marcuise N Marak and Deputy Commissioner Swapnil Tembe were able to reach Chimadachit village across the Simsang river and vaccinate villagers by trekking to the remote location. During the vaccination, a total of 31 villagers were administered the Covid-19 jab.
“It is because of this MGNREGS bridge which was completed recently that we were able to cross the mighty Simsang at this time of the year. Amidst the rains, the long treks, the sultry air and vehicles getting stuck, it was great that we could get 31 people to come forward for vaccination. We will continue our efforts!” East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner tweeted from his official FB page.
The 145 metre long Suspension bridge across Simsang was recently constructed under MGNREGS with the supervision of the Samanda BDO and Tembe has lauded his efforts.
