TURA, June 27: Teachers from Garo Hills who successfully cleared the MTET examinations conducted recently but failed to get appointment during the recently held interview for the post of teachers have urged the state government to look into their grievances and conduct another interview to be absorbed into posts lying vacant across Garo Hills as well as the state.
In a statement issued here on Sunday, as per the advertisement for the recently conducted interview for the posts of Assistant teachers for government lower primary school under Tura Division, the total number of vacant post was 114 but only 96 candidates were selected out of the total 159 candidates. However, the teachers claimed that in other districts of Garo Hills, all the candidates who had appeared for the interview were selected.
The teachers also alleged that the MTET-qualified candidates from Tura Centre were also not allowed to apply in other districts or divisions where many schools have closed down due to the unavailability of MTET passed teachers.
“As per the advertisement, there is no restriction on any MTET qualified candidates to apply in other divisions and districts in the state. So it is a great concerne for us since the MTET means Meghalaya Teacher Eligibility Test and should be applicable to all over Meghalaya state except in other medium of language,” the teachers said.
Pointing out that MTET passed candidates from Tura centre now have no hope of being appointed even in non-government LP schools in other districts and divisions, the teachers sought appointment into posts lying vacant in various districts.
