SHILLONG, July 2: Opposition chief whip and Mawlai MLA, PT Sawkmie, has taken strong exception to of garbage collected from Jowai reportedly being dumped at the marten in Mawlai.
Flagging concern on the matter, Sawkmie has petitioned the CEO of Shillong Municipal Board stating that such practice would only make the situation at the marten worse even as he urged the CEO to prevent wastes from other district from being dumped at the marten.
In another petition to the East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, the MLA lamented that there is no restriction on the movement of vehicles from other districts and on vehicles collecting garbage from Jowai that are allowed to come to East Khasi Hills to dump the garbage.
