SHILLONG, July 6: NPP Spokesperson Marcuise N Marak has accused Congress leader Mukul Sangma of gaining petty political mileage with the help of lies.
In a statement, Marak said that under the Congress government, tax collection was at its lowest, with Meghalaya losing out hundreds of crores of money due to the non-collection of taxes.
“The anomalies have been highlighted in various CAG reports as well as departmental reports, so Mukul has to take responsibility for all wrongdoings and misdeeds. It is possible because the Congress has stayed away from actual politics for so many days now, they are beginning to forget the blatant misdoings of their government,” he said.
The NPP spokesperson also said that taxation and collection under the MDA government have increased rapidly.
“It is almost laughable for Mukul to say that the government did not collect revenue from petrol pumps, something which is utilised for running the state’s machinery. After the government provided the facts and statistics, stating that out of the 229 petrol pumps in the state, only 58 petrol pumps had arrears and Rs. 5.91 crore had been recovered from them, Mukul slyly went under the cover because he had nothing to say after his lies were exposed,” Marak said.
