SHILLONG, July 7: The East Khasi Hills Anti-Human Trafficking Unit conducted raids on July 2 night after receiving public complaints about sex workers operating along the Barik-Dhankheti road and that ‘clients’ were seen arriving in vehicle, the office of the East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police said in a statement issued here on Wednesday.
Consequently, three sex workers and as many ‘clients’ were apprehended on the day.
“Henceforth, to prevent this sort of activity in the area apart from booking sex workers, clients apprehended in the area will face legal action under the Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act and the Meghalaya Police Act,” the SP’s office said.
