SHILLONG, July 9: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, on Friday, said that the state government has blacklisted many contractors who have abandoned the road projects under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) and assured similar action against those failing to deliver quality work.
“There are many road projects under the centrally sponsored programme which had stood still since 2001 since the contractors have abandoned the work. Many of them have been blacklisted. I assure that we will continue to backlist the contractors who are not doing quality work in the future,” Conrad told reporters.
The chief minister also informed that he has been personally monitoring the PMGSY work for the last three years.
“We have an online monitoring system and now there is vast improvement in the implementation of PMGSY projects. It is for this reason that Centre has increased the funding of PMGSY for Meghalaya,” the CM said.
Bailey bridge
Commenting on the Bailey bridge at Dwar Ksuid, Umroi, in Ri Bhoi, the chief minister said that it is a matter of concern to see repeated damages on the bridge.
“We have requested the Centre to construct a new bridge. The matter is being closely followed up,” Sangma said.
