SHILLONG, July 9: Highlighting the problems of locals at Mawjrong village in East Khasi Hills, who are dependent on the lone police outpost at Sohra, the CEM of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council, Titos Chyne, has beseeched Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui to set up a police outpost in Mawjrong.
Chyne, who met Rymbui on Friday to deliberate on the matter, pointed out to the latter that there is only a single police station at Sohra, which is insufficient to cater to the day-to-day requirements of the people.
Pointing out that Sohra is a tourism hub with huge inflow of tourists even in remote areas, Titos said that there is a pressing need to set up another police outpost which, according to him, should cover areas under Khadarshnong, Laitkroh up to Umtyngar, although centrally located in Mawjrong.
This, he claimed, would bring the administration closer to the people.
Terming this as a long-standing demand of the people since 2012, which has remained unresolved, Titos told Rymbui: “I urge you to kindly facilitate the setting up of a police outpost at Mawjrong at the earliest for the benefit and interest of the people of the area and the state”.
