CBI inquiry against two for ‘misconduct’ in NEHU projects

SHILLONG, July 13: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Anti Corruption Bureau, Shillong, has registered a preliminary enquiry against two individuals for “gross misconduct” on their part which resulted in “wrongful loss” to the North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) in the matter of awarding contract for different construction works of the hostel and residential areas at the permanent campus of the varsity.
Those charged include Jose Cherian, Executive Engineer (University Engineer I/C), NEHU, and contractor BD Marbaniang.
The CBI has said that the suspect officers awarded the aforementioned work against the tender conditions and rules of GFR-2017. Various violations of guidelines in respect of tender procedure were also not followed by the officers of NEHU, which will be looked into thoroughly during the inquiry.
