Inspection of commercial vehicles
NONGSTOIN, July 15: Magistrate and police officials in West Khasi Hills on Thursday conducted a surprise check of all commercial vehicles in Nongstoin town area only to find that many drivers of commercial vehicles did not display their vaccination status, in violation of the recent government order. Meanwhile, the drivers in the district have been warned against infringement of the government order. “We will continue to check all the vehicles from now onwards and if we find those who violate, they will be fined under the Meghalaya Epidemic Act 2020,” an official said.

Market closed due to SOP violation
MAWKYRWAT, July 15: South West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, C Kharkongor, has ordered temporary closure Umdohlun Market. A statement in this regard informed that the DC, along with zonal magistrate and other officials, had been carrying out inspections for the last few days at the market only find COVID-19 protocols going for a toss. Meanwhile, following the closure order, the DC has also directed the shopkeepers to meet the zonal magistrate on July 21 at Umdohlun Market and submit their names. For the ones vaccinated against COVID-19, the DC has directed them to bring the vaccination slip or the certificate.

Nominations for central awards
SHILLONG, July 15: The Ministry of Culture has invited nominations/applications for the award of Fellowships and Scholarships in the Scheme component of Tagore National Fellowship for Cultural Research (TNFCR) under the Scheme of Scholarship and Fellowship for Promotion of Art and Culture. Under the first category ‘Tagore National Fellows’, selected candidates will be paid an honorarium of Rs 80,000 per month and allowances. Up to 15 awards are given in a year under this category. The selected candidates of the second category ‘Tagore Research Scholars’ will be paid an honorarium of Rs 50,000 per month and allowances. Under this category, 25 awards are given in a year. List of nodal institutions along with other details and application form are available on the website of the Ministry (www.indiaculture.nic.in) and Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (www.nehrumemorial.nic.in). Last date for submitting applications is on or before 5:30 PM of July 30.
