SHILLONG, July 16: Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills Isawanda Laloo has lauded all localities including the respective Community COVID-19 Management Teams (CCMTs) for their efforts which has led to an improvement in the vaccination coverage in the district.
In a statement, the deputy commissioner said: “A number of localities in Shillong have undertaken detailed surveys to determine the exact vaccination coverage in their locality, so that no one is missed out. Such surveys for each category (18+, 45+) have been done under the guidance of the Incident Commanders, EMs and Medical Officers, involving ASHAs, CCMTs and volunteers”.
The DC said that two localities — Nongrim Hills and R&R Colony — have submitted detailed reports of their endeavours recently.
According to the report, with a total of 3,675 eligible residents in Nongrim Hills, the Dorbar has achieved 80 per cent coverage for residents in the category of 18 years and above. While 14.73 per cent of them refused to be vaccinated, 6.51 per cent comprise of those who cited health issues, COVID recoveries, etc. to say no to the jab, as per the report.
In R&R Colony, a commendable 99.7 per cent of the residents have been vaccinated while four persons have refused to get the shot out of 2,750 eligible residents, which excludes those that recovered from COVID, pregnant women, etc.
It has been made aware that reasons for refusal to take the COVID vaccine have been noted and accordingly more sensitisation will be held in collaboration with the medical officers in order to address any concerns about the vaccine.
It may be mentioned that Nongrim Hills presently has five active cases while R&R Colony has only one active case. No COVID deaths have been recorded in Nongrim Hills since May 26, and in R&R Colony no COVID patient has died since June 12.
