NONGSTOIN, July 17: The Langpih unit of Federation of Khasi-Jaintia & Garo People (FKJGP) has condemned the alleged arrest of two minor boys by Assam Police.
The incident reportedly occurred on Friday at Kyrdum village when police personnel from the neighbouring state apprehended the minors — Lebarius Khardewsaw (12) and Bomes Khardewsaw (14) of Mawsikar village — while they were tending their cattle.
Following the arrest, the word spread among the locals following which the villagers, along with a team from Langpih Police Outpost, intervened, resulting in the release of the duo.
Meanwhile, reacting to the incident, president of the FKJGP Langpih unit, Serbilin Lyngdoh, called the move by the Assam Police a “barbaric act”.
Reasoning that such acts will instill apprehensions among the locals in Langpih, he asked the state government to take up the matter with the Assam Government immediately.
