NONGPOH, July 23: Agriculture Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh on Friday paid a visit to farmers of Raid Nonglyngdoh in Nongkhrah area of Pahambir village, Ri Bhoi, to give ear to the grievances of the farmers.
The minister was accompanied by Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem, besides L Kharkrang, Director of Agriculture department, district officers from Ri Bhoi, and self-help groups and cooperative societies of the area.
The minister assured the farmers of expediting the construction of the food processing unit as requested by them, and addressing other issues.
As the area is popularly known for pineapple cultivation, the farmers petitioned the minister for an agricultural market in the area.
They suggested that the proposed market, with the support of Raid Nongkhrah, should be set up on National Highway 6 near Umrangksai village, where the two acres of land has been donated to set up the facility.
Mayralborn Syiem, in his address, thanked the minister and also exuded confidence in the assurances provided by him in response to the grievances of the farmers.
