Medal-winning athletes allowed 30-second smile for photo at Oly
Tokyo, July 25: The medal-winning athletes at the Tokyo Olympics will now be able to sport a wide smile for the shutterbugs after the IOC updated its protocol on Sunday, allowing them to remove their masks for 30 seconds during the podium ceremony. The organisers have made wasks mandatory for athletes, coaches and officials at all times to deal with the COVID-19 threat. The updated protocol, which allows athletes to remove masks briefly, came into effect on Sunday morning. “The athletes are invited to put their masks back on by a visual sign prior to any other photo opportunity,” the IOC added. SL: Chennaiyin FC announce signing of striker Jobby Justin
Chennai, July 25: Two-time Indian Super League champions Chennaiyin FC on Sunday announced the signing of striker Jobby Justin on a two-year contract ahead of the upcoming season. Justin made his ISL debut with ATK in their title-winning campaign of 2019-20 making 10 appearances. The forward, who grew up playing on the beaches of Vettucaud, was also a vital cog in East Bengal’s second-place finish in the 2018-19 I-League season. (PTI)

Bengaluru FC sign contract with Kashmiri frontman Farooq
Bengaluru, July 25: Former Indian Super League champions Bengaluru FC on Sunday announced the signing of Jammu and Kashmir’s Danish Farooq on a two-year contract.The 25-year-old attacker, who is the first player from Jammu and Kashmir to sign for the club, joins the Blues ahead of their upcoming AFC Cup playoff stage clash against Eagles FC. Danish spent his youth career playing for the J&K Bank football academy where he led them to 12 titles as captain. He then made a move to Lonestar Kashmir in the I-League second division, and a season later to Real Kashmir. (PTI)

Mexico beat Honduras 3-2 to reach Gold Cup semifinal
GLENDALE, July 25: Rogelio Funes Mori scored his third goal of the tournament in the 26th minute, and defending champion Mexico defeated Honduras 3-0 on Saturday night to advance to the CONCACAF Gold Cup semifinals. Funes Mori, who made his national team debut on July 3, has four goals in five international appearances. Jonathan Dos Santos added his fifth international goal in the 31st minute and Orbelí­n Pineda scored his fourth goal in the 38th. Mexico plays its semifinal on Thursday against Costa Rica or Canada. MI to play CSK on September 19 when IPL resumes in UAE
New Delhi, July 25: Defending champions Mumbai Indians will meet Chennai Super Kings in Dubai on September 19 when the IPL resumes in the United Arab Emirates, the BCCI announced on Sunday. The tournament was suspended in May after multiple COVID-19 cases were reported in its bio-bubble. A total number of 31 matches will be played in the duration of 27 days including seven doubles headers (five were held in India). In all, 13 matches will be held in Dubai, 10 in Sharjah and 8 in Abu Dhabi. (PTI)

Finch ruled out of B’desh series, likely to undergo knee surgery
Bridgetown (Barbados), July 25: Skipper Aaron Finch has been ruled out of the remainder of Australia’s tour of the West Indies and their upcoming series in Bangladesh. Finch suffered an injury to his right knee in the lead-up to the T20I series against the West Indies and further aggravated it during the final match on July 16. He has been out of action since. The Australia captain will return home to complete 14 days quarantine before likely undergoing surgery. (IANS)
