Border residents in WKH wish to stay with state

NONGSTOIN, Aug 3: A day before the regional committee’s inspection of areas of difference along the interstate border with Assam, a meeting was organised in West Khasi Hills by Dorbar of Athiabari and Khasi Garo Border Forum with the objective of hearing the opinion of those living in the border villages.
Participating in the meeting, village heads including headmen besides secretaries of as many as 13 villages within Athiabari Hahim Sector, which includes nine villages from Jyrngam Sirdarship and four under Riangsih Sirdarship, have decided to stay with Meghalaya and a resolution regarding the matter will be handed over to the Border Committee of the state government.
It may be mentioned that one of the three regional committees tasked with providing ground reports to the state government on the issues pertaining to the interstate border will inspect the areas of difference on Wednesday.
The Regional Committee for West Khasi Hills, headed by Minister Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar will visit disputed areas in the district with co-chairperson Brolding Nongsiej and other officials of the district.
These areas include Tarabari and Langpih.
