NONGPOH, August 3: Residents of as many as select eight villages in Mawhati Constituency, Ri Bhoi, along the interstate border with Assam, have been living without electricity for more than three years.
It may be mentioned that these villages — Amdubighat, Amphreng, Amjong and others — are deprived of power despite the inception of Centre’s Saubhagya Scheme in 2016, which envisages electrifying far-flung villages across India.
Interestingly, it is learnt that the village were provided electricity only for a mere three days in 2018.
In this regard, Mawhati MDC Charles Marngar along with the leaders of All Tiwah Students Union, Meghalaya State Unit, on Tuesday met Superintending Engineer of Ri Bhoi Distribution Division of MeECL at Umiam seeking his intervention in re-electrifying these border villages at the earliest.
