GHADC officials call for more central aid

SHILLONG, Aug 13: Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) Chief Executive Member (CEM) Benedic Marak, his chief adviser Akki Sangma, BJP MDC and Executive Member in charge of Agriculture, Promod Koch, have called on Union Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda in the national capital, and sought central aid for the development of Garo Hills.
“We have requested the Minister Arjun Munda for special assistance/grant-in-aid from the Tribal Affairs Ministry wherein he has assured us of positive outcome to follow,” the CEM said.
They also met the Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs, Kaushal Kishore, and requested for construction of GHADC Bhawan in Delhi and construction of shopping complexes in all the district headquarters within Garo Hills region.
Kishore has, meanwhile, assured that the Ministry will look into the request.
The GHADC delegation also met the Union Minister of State for DoNER, BL Verma, and sought the development of infrastructures in Garo Hills.
Earlier, the delegation had also called on Union Law and Justice Minister Kiren Rijiju, Union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy, Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Petroleum and Natural Gas Rameswar Teli, and called for central funding for various infrastructure set-ups in the Garo Hills region.
