Committee moves CM for upgrade of Selsella Block
TURA, Sep 7: The Selsella Civil Sub-Division Movement Committee (SCSMC) from Selsella Block has petitioned Chief Minister Conrad Sangma for upgrade of the block into a civil subdivision. In a memorandum to the chief minister, the Committee argued that the Selsella Block, which was created in 1958, has seen no significant development despite its 63 years of existence. “There have been no signs of developmental activities to promote the youths in the fields of economy, agriculture or education. If this continues, the oldest block will become the most-lagging block compared to others in terms of development,” the Committee contended. It said that the Selsella block, which was earlier bifurcated from Demdema Block, still has a large population to cater to with currently 289 LP schools, 100 UP schools, 34 secondary schools, seven higher secondary schools and two Arts colleges functioning under it. The SCSMC also pointed out that people from the area are faced with inconveniences as they have to travel to either Dadenggre or Tura for minor official works or attending court hearings. It added that the upgrade of the block will lead to setting up of a number of government sub-offices, thereby boosting the area’s economy and generating employment opportunities for youths.
