SHILLONG, Sep 10: ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, on Friday appointed 172 Casual Labourers of Temporary Status (CLTS) as skilled support staff during a programme at MS Swaminathan Hall of the ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam.
According to a statement, out of the total 172 who received appointment letters, 83 are from Meghalaya (4 in KVK Tura and 79 in Umiam), 31 from Tripura, 12 from Sikkim, 13 from Arunachal Pradesh, 14 from Manipur, 15 from Nagaland and four from Mizoram.
“It has been a long-pending demand of the CLTS, many of whom are working on daily wages since early 80s, to appoint them as skilled support staffs but it was not possible before as there were not enough sanctioned posts of skilled support staffs in the ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region and many casual labourers were granted the temporary status from September 1993, making them eligible for benefit of provident fund,” the statement said.
However, the recent sanction of 184 additional posts for skilled support staff by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi, paved the way for appointment of casual workers. “The newly appointed skilled support staffs will now be eligible for the benefits of pension, gratuity, GPF on par with regular central government servants,” the statement said.
