SHILLONG, Sep 15: The Power department is taking steps for electrification of Umiam Block 5 in Ri Bhoi, which purportedly has been without power supply for several years.
This was informed by Power Minister James Sangma during the ongoing budget session of the state Assembly here on Wednesday. He was replying to a query of Umroi MLA George Lyngdoh.
James, in his response, informed the MLA that 16,369 residents in Ri Bhoi have been provided with power connection.
Dissatisfied with James reply, Lyngdoh said, “The question is particularly for Umiam Block 5, which has not been given power connection for many years. But then the reply of the Power minister is for Ri Bhoi District Saubhagya.”
James then told Lyngdoh that that with regard to Umiam Block 5, an area which is under certain kind of encroachment, there are a total of 83 households, out of which 25 have been provided with temporary power connection.
\Following this, the Umroi MLA asked the Power minister to review the entire situation while informing him that there are two cases pertaining to Block 5.
