SHILLONG, Sep 15: In a bid to bring the citizens of Meghalaya closer to governance by promoting participatory democracy, the state government on Wednesday unveiled MyMeG programme to mark International Democracy Day.
The programme has been designed with a vision to accelerate the developmental pace by engaging and empowering citizens and promoting participatory governance.
It may be mentioned that MyMeG programme aims to connect with citizens face-to-face and through digital platforms so as to facilitate citizen-centric information on benefits of key schemes and programmes, track progress of schemes, programmes and initiatives at district, block and village level, participate and share feedback and opinions through polls and surveys, engage people through townhall meetings, among others.
After launching the programme, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma reiterated his aspiration to see Meghalaya among top ten states of India by 2030.
“To achieve this, we have been working tirelessly to improve the well-being of our farmers, women, youth and every section of the society. To take this further, we want citizens’ participation and engagement in the governance process. With the launch of MyMeG programme, we aim to promote participatory democracy in Meghalaya, where people can contribute in the governance process and share their feedback on various government programmes and initiatives. This will bring transformation in governance by citizen participation, engagement, and empowerment,” the chief minister said.
A statement in this regard also informed that the government has, in the last few years, taken initiatives to promote inclusive development through Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGS), Self-Help Groups (NRLM), Jal Jeevan Mission etc.
“In the last two years, the government has also constructed about 1,000 km of rural roads, provided household tap connections to 1.3 lakh number of households,” it said.
