TURA, Sep 15: The Mothers’ Union from Tura, which is taking up the case of alleged harassment of two employees at the College of Home Science in Tura, has cast aspersions on the college Registrar’s move to issue ‘mental disturbance certificate’ to the victims and has questioned the rationale behind it.
Two employees of the college had earlier accused college authority Pushpita Das of harassing them by engaging them in additional works, which would be degrading at times.
It may be mentioned that an FIR was also registered this regard with the Officer in-charge of the Tura Women’s Police Station.
Speaking to media persons on Wednesday, president of the Mothers’ Union, Sume CB Sangma, termed the issuance of mental disturbance certificate’ as insensitive and condemnable. “Is it possible to tag a person as mentally disturbed by another, merely by giving them a certificate? This act by the Registrar is condemnable in the strongest terms and shows that they are not committed to resolve the issue,” Sangma said.
“We were appalled to hear about the harassment and decided to take up the matter and the recent direction from the Registrar was the last straw,” Sangma added.
