Photography contest results out
SHILLONG, Sep 16: The Rotary Club of Orchid City Shillong has announced the results of the photography contest which it held on the occasion of World Photography Day. In a programme, Director of Public Relations, Matsiewdor War Nongbri, who was the chief guest, distributed prizes to all the winners at Pinewood Hotel on Wednesday evening. The winners are Lasanshwa Rani (School Category), Wann Majaw (General Category), Tenzin Nyima (Royal Enfield Biker Category) and Jonathan Dkhar (Video Category). The function was hosted by club president and joint secretary, Monica Chanda and Dr. Judita Syiemlieh respectively.

WGH launches cleanliness campaign
TURA, Sep 16: Centre’s initiative as part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan — Swachhta Hi Sewa 2021 (cleanliness is service) — was launched in West Garo Hills by Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh at a function here on Wednesday. During the programme, Swachh Bharat Mission icon, Roni D Sangma, and Sub Divisional School Education Officer of Tura, Samuel Ch Marak, presented songs pertaining to Swachhta Hi Sewa campaign. The DC presented awards to three Swachhagrahis (motivators for bringing about behavioural change concerning key sanitation practices) from Dalu, Gambegre and Dadenggre C&RD blocks besides two Swachhta Champions from Selsella and Rongram C&RD blocks. The Swachhta Pledge was also taken during the programme.

Awareness on malnutrition
NONGPOH, Sep 16: As part of the month-long Poshan Maah celebration in Ri Bhoi, the office of the Child Development Project Officer (CDPO), Umling ICDS Project, organised an awareness programme on identification of Severe Acute Malnutrition at Umkaduh village, Ri Bhoi, on Thursday. The programme was participated by lactating mothers, pregnant women, children, Anganwadi workers and ASHAs along with CDPO Umling ICDS, R Kharshilot, Headman of Umkaduh village B Sylliang, and others. The other activities of the day included planting of saplings of nutritious fruit trees, special drive for height and weight measurement for children aged 6 years and below.

Hindi Pakhwada observed
SHILLONG, Sep 16: Hindi Pakhwada was observed by the Power System Operation Corporation (POSOCO) Limited between September 1 and 14, and as part of the observance, the North Eastern Regional Load Despatch Centre (NERLDC), one of POSOCO’s regional entities for managing and securing electricity grid in the North East, conducted competitions like quiz, poetry and folk song, besides typing competitions and picture essay for both its Shillong and Guwahati centres. Employees participated in large numbers which include spouses and children. On the concluding day of the Pakhwada, employees took the Rajbhasha Shapath, which was administered by the Head of Region, Sh. Nabarun Roy, Chief General Manager. During the closing ceremony, Roy extended gratitude towards the organisers and participants for coming together to make the Pakhwada successful. The five other regional load despatch centres of POSOCO also observed the Pakhwada in a similar way.

‘Anomaly’ in recruitment advert
TURA, Sep 16: An allegation has surfaced that an advertisement for recruitment of assistant teachers, which was given out on September 14 by the Secretary has been done without the consent and knowledge of the president of the Managing Committee of the Bhaitbari Deficit Higher Secondary School, Priozzaman Sarkar. In his complaint to the Director of School Education and Literacy in Shillong, Sarkar, while claiming that the decision has been taken without his knowledge for vested interest, demanded that the same be cancelled with immediate effect.

Training on poultry farming
TURA, Sep 16: A training programme on ‘Backyard Poultry Farming with improved breed’ was organised by ICAR-KVK, West Garo Hills, at Dilnigre village under Gambegre Block in West Garo Hills which was participated by villagers from Dilnigre, Dilniamgre and Nengja Bolchugre. Altogether 66 villagers, who participated, were taught on rearing different poultry breeds suitable for the region to ensure more eggs and meat production than local chicken. As a part of the programme, KVK distributed 450 Kuroiler birds among farmers from the three villages.
