SHILLONG, Sep 21: Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Monday unveiled a 10-feet-tall statue of independent India’s first Law Minister, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, in front of the University School of Law and Research at University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM).
Recalling Babasaheb’s contributions to the advocacy of equality, Rymbui, after unveiling the statue, said, “This statue will remind us of the unity in diversity in India.”
USTM Chancellor, M Hoque, during the programme, recalled how Dr. Ambedkar ensured justice to all weaker sections and showed the path towards equality.
Others who were present during the programme include USTM vice chancellor, Prof. GD Sharma, Director General of Construction Industry Development Council, Dr. PR Swarup, other dignitaries, as well as teachers and students of the University.
Floral tributes were also paid to the statue of Dr. Ambedkar by the education minister and other dignitaries.
