SHILLONG, Sep 29: The state government on Wednesday discussed the relocation of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp to a permanent site with the CRPF and Home department officials.
Informing about the meeting, Minister in-charge Home, Lahkmen Rymbui, said, “Today the Chief Minister (Conrad Sangma) led the meeting attended by Deputy Chief Minister, me and officials from the Home department and CRPF to review the deployment of CRPF in an around Shillong, and also to see that whether there is a place to give a permanent site for the CRPF”.
The Home minister said, “In Shillong, as we know, CRPF plays a very important role in providing security to the people of the state but as of now they are located in different place and it has come to the knowledge of the Chief Minister and that is why the issue was reviewed and many things related to it were discussed”.
“As of now no decision has been arrived upon but the process has started and due course of time depending upon the feasibility accessibility and security option, the government will decide at an appropriate time,” he added.
It may be mentioned that the Ka Sur u Paidbah Mawlai (the voice of Mawlai people) had given a three-month deadline to the government for relocation of the CRPF camps, located on the land of Arts and Culture department, Jingkieng Mawlai and District Industrial Centre near Food Corporation of India godown.
