Legal awareness events in city
SHILLONG, Oct 6: The Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority along with the National Domestic Workers Movement (NDWM), Shillong, organised a legal awareness programme on Tuesday at Lapalang, Shillong, as part of the ‘Pan-India Awareness & Outreach Programme’ which was launched recently. According to a statement in this regard, the programme was attended by the domestic workers from Lapalang locality and its adjoining areas. The topics that were touched upon during the programme were free legal aid, Article 21, Article 39A, domestic violence, labour laws, victim compensation, Right to Education, et al. A similar legal awareness programme was organised by Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority in collaboration with Lamjingshai Manbha Foundation & Shamakami, Shillong, on Wednesday at Shillong Law College. Discussions were held on The Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019 and rulings of the Supreme Court and Delhi High Court on rights of transgender persons during the programme.
Bioincubator centre for NEHU Tura
TURA, Oct 6: The first BioNEST Bioincubator Centre in Garo Hills, funded by DBT-BIRAC, Govt of India, was on Wednesday launched at North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Tura Campus. The centre was launched by Director of CSIR-NEIST, Jorhat, Dr. G Narahari Sastry, in the presence of Director General R&D, Dr. Mrutyunjay Suar. Others who attended the programme include West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh, NEHU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla, and Head, Bioinnovation, KIIT-TBI, Bhubaneshwar, Dr Namrata Misra.
Facebook page launched
SHILLONG, Oct 6: The official Facebook page of the Directorate of Civil Defence & Home Guards, Meghalaya, was launched here on Wednesday. Launching the Facebook page, Meghalaya Civil Defence, Commandant General of Home Guards and Director of Civil Defence, Meghalaya, AR Mawthoh, said the page was created for the purpose of sharing important information, notifications and advisories in public interest.
