SHILLONG, Oct 7: Senior politician and former minister, Sayeedullah Nongrum, rejoined Congress on Thursday, in a move which is being dubbed as his homecoming.
Three-time MLA Nongrum has said that he is back in the Congress on the behest of state Congress president, Vincent H Pala.
Nongrum had left Congress earlier and contested the Selsella bypoll on a UDP ticket in 2019.
Asked which seat will he vie for as his first contest after the break, Nongrum said, “…there are 2-3 seats. I will not disturb Congress candidate from Rajabala.”
On the other hand, Meghalaya  Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary, Deborah Marak, has welcomed Nongrum, who she refers to as a veteran Congress member, even as she expressed hope to bring back other senior members back to the party.
It is worth mentioning here that newly appointed MPCC chief, Vincent Pala, is on a mission to form a strong Congress camp by calling in party leaders who had left the party.
