Tragedy during puja celebrations, 2 killed after bike dashes into tree

TURA, Oct 13: The ongoing celebrations of Durga Puja in Garo Hills was cut short by a tragic accident in which two persons returning from the celebrations lost their lives in Garobadha area of South West Garo Hills, late Tuesday night.

Both victims, hailing from Mankachar town in neighbouring Assam, were killed when their speeding motorcycle dashed against a tree at Rangatari village of Garobadha around 9 in the night.

The victims had come to Garo Hills to partake in the puja celebrations and were heading back after puja pandal hopping when tragedy struck them.

The victims have been identified as Muluk Chand and Ahinur Islam of Teporapara village under Mankachar in Assam. Both victims were rushed to Garobadha hospital but could not be saved as they had received serious head injuries. The two victims were not wearing any helmets at the time of the accident.
