Ladies & Junior Girls Golf C’ship to be held in Shillong

SHILLONG, Oct 16: The Indian Golf Union (IGU) along with the Meghalaya Golf Promoters Society (MGPS) and Shillong Club will be conducting the IGU North East India Ladies & Junior Girls Golf Championship from October 19-22 at the Shillong Golf Course.
The event is a national categorised event that carries points in the National Order of Merit for Ladies & Junior Girls and also in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR). This is the second time the IGU has scheduled a National event in Shillong.
In a statement, Anil Pargal, organising secretary MGPS, said, “Hosting of national events will help bring the Shillong Golf Course on the national golf map and will also keep the golf course in good shape.The youngsters of the state will also get inspiration to take up the game of golf.”
The IGU has expressed its interest in scheduling more national events in the North Eastern region in the coming months and is hopeful of more people picking up the game in tier 2 and 3 cities of the region.
The Indian Golf Union is the apex body of Golf in India and the governing body for the game in the Country.
One of the main objectives of the IGU has been to promote and develop the game at the grassroots and grow the presence of Indian Golf in the world arena.
