All state government offices and educational institutions falling under 13-Mawryngkneng and 24-Mawphlang constituencies in East Khasi Hills and 47-Rajabala Constituency in West Garo Hills will remain closed on October 30 to enable voters to exercise their franchise in connection with the by-elections, a statement issued here said. Employees working in other districts, who are electors under the aforementioned constituencies, will be granted ‘Special Leave’. “Every person employed in any trade, industrial undertaking or any of the establishment governed by N.I. Act, 1881. Shops and those which work on shift basis, a daily wage, casual worker including those working outside the constituency who are voters under the above constituencies shall be entitled to the benefit of a Paid Holiday as provided in Section 135B of RP Act, 1951,” the statement said.

Public hearing
The Deputy Superintendent of Excise, North Garo Hills, has informed that there will be a public hearing on October 22 in Mendipathar market at 11 am, to elicit public opinions with regard to the proposed opening of a bonded warehouse in Mendipathar. In this regard, all individuals, stakeholders and members of NGOs of the district have been requested to participate so as to share their opinions on the matter.

Body formed
The Meghalaya Power Workers Union has constituted a new committee in a bid to strengthen the working of the Union, a statement issued here said. Dominic Sumer has been named the president and publicity secretary, while Rapborlang Majaw is the general secretary. Similarly, other individuals have also been awarded different posts including the posts of central executive members.
