AAI officials inspect Baljek Airport for runway expansion

SHILLONG, Oct 23: A high-level delegation of Airports Authority of India (AAI) from Delhi, led by its Executive Director, on Saturday conducted inspection at Baljek Airport for runway expansion, suitable enough for landing Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 aircrafts.
The delegation also comprised Joint Secretary and Managing Director of Meghalaya MTC, and officials from the West Garo Hills district administration.
Meanwhile, the district administration, on its Facebook handle, informed that a report in this regard will be submitted within a month’s time.
The Baljek Airport, which is suitable only for ATR landing at present, requires further expansion.
Meanwhile, in a first, as many as eight flight movements took place in Shillong Airport on Saturday.
As many as 267 passengers landed at the airport while 171 passengers departed from here during the day.
