manchester, Oct 24: There was a pick of moments that confirmed Manchester United’s humiliation against Liverpool.
United’s defense was completely run ragged against Liverpool, conceding after five minutes. It was a scene of abject failings that Solskjaer has consistently provided little evidence he can rectify.
Salah had just received the pass from Roberto Firmino. To his left was Robertson. To his right, Naby Keita. Only Luke Shaw was in front of them as the last line of United resistance. The ball was put through by Salah to Keita who slotted past David De Gea.
It was Diogo Jota who slid in to stab the ball over the line in the 13th minute from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s cross after a muddle between Harry Maguire and Shaw.
The first of Salah’s goals – allowing the striker to score in a 10th successive Liverpool game – came after his shot was initially blocked by Maguire. The loose ball fell to Keita who cut it back for Salah to strike high into the net.
And just before the halftime whistle blew, Salah was able to send United in at the break on the receiving end of another slice of misery after sidefooting in from Jota’s pass.
Whatever Solskjaer said at the break didn’t change anything. Five minutes into the second half, Jordan Henderson sliced through the defense with a pass from the halfway line that Salah ran onto before clipping past De Gea.
Man City vs Brighton
Phil Foden led a masterful first half from Manchester City in a 4-1 win at Brighton in the Premier League on Saturday.
The defending champions were untouchable before halftime as Phil Foden scored in the 28th and 31st minutes after the recalled Ilkay Gundogan had opened the scoring at Amex Stadium.
Brighton was much better after the break and grabbed a consolation through a penalty converted by Alexis Mac Allister. Riyad Mahrez had the final say, though, coming off the bench to take a pass from Foden and score in the fifth minute of stoppage time for City.
Watford vs Everton
Claudio Ranieri claimed his first win as Watford manager as Josh King scored a hat trick in a 5-2 thrashing of Everton in the Premier League on Saturday.
The final whistle was met with loud jeers from Everton fans after the team’s most humiliating loss under manager Rafa Benitez.
Everton conceded four goals from the 78th minute at Goodison Park, a terrible finish to a match the team started well when Tom Davies scored the opening goal in the third minute.
King equalized in the 13th but Richarlison, a former Watford player, reclaimed the lead for Everton with a header in the 63rd.
It was all Watford after that, with Juraj Kucka’s header drawing Watford level again in the 78th, King scoring in the 80th and 86th minutes to complete his hat trick, and Emmanuel Dennis adding a fifth in the first minute of stoppage time.
Newcastle vs Palace
allum Wilson’s goal from an overhead kick rescued a 1-1 draw for Newcastle at Crystal Palace but the team now under Saudi ownership remained without a Premier League win after nine games this season.
Wilson’s acrobatic effort in the 65th minute was his fourth goal of the season, and second in two games since returning from injury.
It canceled out the opener scored nine minutes earlier by Christian Benteke, who headed in Tyrick Mitchell’s floated cross.
Burnley vs Southampton
In another match, Maxwel Cornet scored twice for Burnley to salvage a point in a 2-2 draw at Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday. (AP)
