SHILLONG, Oct 28: In view of the rise in crimes, mainly afflicting women and children, over a month-long sensitisation programme was organised by NGO SPARK recently in two phases.
According to a statement, the first phase consisted of a thorough workshop on ‘Welfare & Development through Knowledge and Empowerment’ from September 21 to 28 and the second phase, which was from September 28 to October 28, covered the most vulnerable areas targeting the maximum population.
The programme was supported by the Office of the District Social Welfare Officer, East Khasi Hills.
The programme was held at Bara Bazaar slum, besides Mawlong and Mawlynrei Triashnong villages and their adjoining localities, covering more than 600 participants.
Resource persons for the programme were community leaders from the concerned villages and sessions were undertaken on need basis.
