Will bring up language recognition, ILP in Parl session, MP assures

SHILLONG, Nov 1: Rajya Sabha member, Dr WR Kharlukhi, has assured a delegation of members from Khasi Authors’ Society and Khasi Department of North-Eastern Hill University that he will take up the demand for the inclusion of Khasi and Garo languages in the Eight Schedule as well as ILP implementation in Meghalaya during the forthcoming session of the Parliament.
According to a statement, the delegation had called on the MP with regard to the demand for language inclusion in the Eight Schedule.
“Dr WR Kharlukhi stated that there is a need for rigorous strategies to impress upon the Ministry of Home Affairs the genuine demand for recognition of Khasi language in the Eight Schedule. Moreover, he said that proper lobby is also required at the Department of Official Languages and other relevant authorities to expedite the same,” the statement said.
The Rajya Sabha member further informed that during the forthcoming session of Parliament, he will bring up the issues during the zero-hour notice.
