Restriction on sale and use of firecrackers

TURA, Nov 3: A day ahead of Diwali festivities, West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh has issued an order putting certain restrictions on the sale of firecrackers in the district.

The order issued on Wednesday prohibited the sale, purchase and procurement of foreign made firecrackers, the use of joined firecrackers (series crackers or laris) which cause huge air, noise and solid waste problems, the use of firecrackers generating noise level exceeding 125dB (A) or 145 dB (C) pk at 4 metres distance from the point of bursting, bursting of crackers within 100 metres from hospitals, nursing homes, primary and district health care centres, educational institutions, courts, religious places or any other areas which may have been declared as silent zones by the concerned authorities.

The order also permitted the bursting of any firecrackers only from 8:30 pm to 10 pm while the sale of the permitted firecrackers is allowed only through licensed traders.
