SHILLONG, Nov 3: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has been given a two-week deadline to return the jurisdiction of Shnat Hima Nongwah-Mawtamur to Hima Sohiong by the Joint Action Committee (JAC).
In a letter to Executive Member in-charge Elaka, Jambor War, chairman of the JAC Purningtar Shabong said that they are upset with the delay on part of the KHADC to withdraw the decision of Lyngdoh of Hima Sohiong, Bashemphang Thabah, to hand over Shnat Hima Nongwah-Mawtamur to the Syiem of Hima Jirang, Hamberley Wahlang, on April 17, 2015, the decision for which was approved by the KHADC on August 6, 2015.
Shabong said that they had submitted a complaint letter to the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of KHADC regarding the decision to approve the handing over of Shnat Hima Nongwah-Mawtamur to the Syiem of Hima Jirang. “We had demanded to immediately revert the Shnat Hima Nongwah-Mawtamur to Hima Sohiong and to immediately remove Thabah as the Lyngdoh of Hima Sohiong,” JAC chairman said.
According to him, the JAC had again written to the CEM on October 22, 2019, to remind him about the matter. “We had raised this issue with the KHADC on numerous occasions. But it is really disappointing that the KHADC has failed to comply with our demand even after two years,” Shabong said.
