NONGPOH, Nov 9: Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem has appealed to one and all to work in tandem with the government to further developmental activities.
The MLA made the appeal during a programme for distribution of power tillers at Umling C&RD Block Training Hall on Tuesday. The power tillers were distributed to self-help groups at Rs 1,25,000 subsidy while for village organisation, the subsidy was fixed at Rs 9,50,000.
It may be mentioned that the programme was organised by the Office of the District Agriculture Officer, Ri Bhoi, as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations.
Syiem, who attended the programme as the chief guest, lauded the efforts of the officials of various departments, including the Agriculture department, for the implementation of various schemes in the district.
He, in his address, also touched upon the Backward Regions Grant Fund (BRGF), and said how the central scheme benefitted people of Ri Bhoi.
The central government has granted many special schemes and projects for ‘Aspirational Districts’ in different sectors such as health, farming, education, food and nutrition, water supply, etc., and Ri Bhoi district has also benefitted a lot by such schemes, the MLA said.
Congratulating select self-help group members who benefitted from such schemes, the MLA urged them to work hard, maintain cooperation among themselves and properly utilise the schemes for their benefits.
District Agriculture Officer EM Suchiang, in her address, informed the gathering that the Agriculture department has approved the scheme ‘Promotion of Farm Mechanization for Aspirational District under Krishi Kalyan Abhiyan-III during 2020-21 under Sub-Mission on Agricultural Mechanization’.
She also informed that Ri Bhoi district is the only district in Meghalaya to avail this scheme with the purpose to encourage farmers for modern method of farming, push for significant productions, and to speed up the work as well as to doubling farmer’s income.
The programme was also attended by Assistant Director of Agriculture (PP), Ri Bhoi, B Kharkongor, District Horticulture Officer, D Lamar, Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer, D Lyngdoh, members of self-help groups, among others.
