TURA/JOWAI, Nov 11: As part of the commemoration of ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’, free medical health camps were organsied at Majai under Sohra Civil Sub Division, East Khasi Hills, and two districts of Garo Hills region — South West Garo Hills and North Garo Hills — besides East Jaintia Hills district on Thursday.
The health camp in Majai was organised by the District Legal Services Authority, East Khasi Hills, along with the Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority (MSLSA).
The camp was inaugurated by Noor Ain Khan, District & Session Judge, East Khasi Hills.
The offices of the District Medical and Health Officer and District Social Welfare, East Khasi Hills, set up stalls highlighting their activities to create awareness and to enable the people of the area to avail their services.
On Kashbanagar Secondary School premises, Gandhipara, in South West Garo Hills, a daylong mega camp-cum-health camp, to mark the Pan-India Legal Awareness and Outreach Campaign to provide a number of free services, was jointly organised by the Health & Family Welfare department and District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), South West Garo Hills, under the aegis of National Legal Services Authority, on Thursday.
Free health check-up camp and awareness on various health issues, legal services and awareness, Aadhar enrolment, MHIS registration, banking services and awareness-cum-on the spot registration camp for e-Shram, were some of the activities and events held during the mega camp with various line departments and service providers to enable the people of the area to avail free and easy services within their reach.
Three oldest citizens of the area who have received complete doses of COVID-19 vaccine were also felicitated on the occasion.
To mark the occasion, a plantation of coconut saplings was also undertaken by the chief guest and officials at the designated space of the school campus for AYUSH Garden.
A free medical health camp was organised at Mendipathar College in North Garo Hills by the Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority (MSLSA) in tandem with District Medical & Health Officer and District Legal Services Authority, North Garo Hills. A sizeable number of students, teachers, Nokma, Sordar and members of self-help group benefitted from the free medical services.
In East Jaintia Hills, the mega health camp was organised at Iapmala Presbyterian Lower Primary School, Iapmala village, which was attended by East Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner, E Kharmalki, District and Session Judge-cum-Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, East Jaintia Hills, C Dkhar, among others.
On the occasion, the DC handed over work orders to functionaries of Iapmala VEC for implementation of MGNREGA projects. Work orders were also handed over to 19 beneficiaries of PMAY-G of Iapmala and Lumshken villages. Also, relief funds were distributed to the victims of natural calamities in the district.
