Banks, offices in city closed down
SHILLONG, Nov 11: Pressure groups comprising KSU, HYC and others on Thursday closed down select banks and offices in Shillong for functioning on the occasion of Shad Nongkrem. KSU president, Lambok Marngar, said banks and offices should respect the local sentiment and festivals. He also asked the state government to intervene into the matter, and ensure that such institutions remain closed on local holidays.
Group members detained, released
JOWAI, Nov 11: As many as four group members, two each from Jaintia Youth Federation and Jaintia Students Movement, were detained by West Jaintia Hills Police, and later released unconditionally for holding a protest march with placards from Lad College to Deputy Commissioner’s office here demanding admission for more than 150 students who failed to get admission in the Kiang Nangbah Government College due to non-availability of seats. The members organised a sit-in at the DC’s office, but police attempted to remove them. On refusing, they were removed and detained.
Exhibition on justice delivery
SHILLONG, Nov 11: As part of the Pan India Awareness & Outreach Programme under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and Legal Services Week, the Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority (MSLSA) organised an exhibition on ‘Justice Delivery System, its Administration, Achievements & Legal Aid System for the last 75 years’ at the Conference Hall of the High Court here on Wednesday. High Court Judge, and Chairperson, High Court Legal Services Committee, Justice W Diengdoh, was the chief guest of the programme, who inaugurated the exhibition.
