Minister advocates need for sensitisation on consumer rights

TURA, Nov 22: Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, James PK Sangma, on Monday advocated the need to sensitise people on National Food Security Act, Consumer Protection Act and One Nation One Ration Card.
James, who was speaking at an awareness programme in West Garo Hills which was held as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations, also informed about the recent signing of an MoU with the United Nations World Food Programme to streamline the Public Distribution System (PDS) in Meghalaya.
West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh, during the programme, appealed to the people to avail government schemes and facilities.
Stating that Aadhaar enrolment is mandatory now, he instructed all PDS dealers and beneficiaries, et al, to enrol their names for the same.
On the other hand, Secretary of Food Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Pravin Bakshi, informed that the department has come up with innovative and technological initiatives, including transparency in PDS.
